EEA/EU and Swiss National Family Member Visa – France

Hassle-free visa processing for your travel needs.

Overview

This visa is for family members of a European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), or Swiss national(excluding French nationals).

Eligible family members include:

  • Spouse
  • Direct descendants or dependents under 21 years old
  • Direct dependent older relatives
  • Direct dependent older relatives or descendants of the spouse
    (For students, only the spouse and direct descendants qualify.)

 Visa Type

short-stay or long-stay visa is required depending on the duration of the stay. Whether a visa is needed depends on the nationality of the applicant.

Entry Requirements for France

Even if a visa is not required, third-country nationals must meet Schengen and national entry conditions, which include:

  • Holding a valid passport and visa (if applicable).
  • Proof of accommodation, financial means, and return travel.
  • Proof of purpose of stay (if applicable).

Documents Required

Pre-requisites

  • Passport: Issued within the last 10 years, with at least two blank pages and valid for at least three months beyond the departure date.
  • ID Photograph: As per Photo Specifications.
  • UK Residency:
    • Provide a UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.
  • Official Travel Document: If applicable, a Note Verbale is required.

Proof of Family Relationship

  • Marriage certificate (for spouse).
  • Birth certificate (for direct descendants or dependents under 21).
  • Proof of dependency for dependent older relatives.
  • For step-relatives: Proof of legal guardianship or step-relationship.

Proof of Travel

  • Confirmed return ticket (plane, ferry, bus, etc.).
  • If in transit, proof of entry requirements for the final destination.

Proof of Finance

  • If staying in a hotel:
    • €65 per day (if hotel booking is provided).
    • €120 per day (if no hotel booking is provided).
  • If staying with a relative:
    • Attestation d’Accueil (host invitation, validated by the French town hall).
    • €32.50 per day in additional financial proof.

Proof of Accommodation

  • Hotel booking or rental agreement, clearly stating the applicant’s full name, stay dates, and address.
  • Attestation d’Accueil (issued by the local town hall in France).

Travel Health Insurance

  • Valid for the Schengen area.
  • Minimum coverage of €30,000 for medical costs, including emergencies.

Exemptions from Providing Supporting Documents

You do not need to present accommodation, financial, or travel documents at the border if you:

  • Hold a valid French residence permit or DCEM (movement document for foreign minors).
  • Are married to a French citizen.
  • Hold a long-stay visa requiring a residence permit application upon arrival.
  • Are a diplomatic, governmental, or intergovernmental official on an official mission.
  • Are a crew member of a ship or aircraft on service duty.

Photo Specifications

  • Recent and True to Appearance: The photograph must reflect your current appearance and must not be older than six months.
  • Size Requirements: The photo should be between 35 mm and 40 mm wide.
  • Face Proportion: The face should occupy 32 mm to 36 mm(approximately 70-80% of the photo) from chin to forehead, excluding hair.
  • Background: A plain, light-colored backgroundis required, with no shadows or patterns.
  • Expression: A neutral expression, with both eyes open and clearly visible. No excessive smiling or frowning.
  • Head Position: The face must be centered and looking directly at the camera.
  • Glasses & Accessories: No tinted glasses, reflections, or glare; frames must not cover the eyes. Head coverings are only permitted for religious or medical reasonsand must not obscure facial features.
